On September 14, 2024, Kolkata hosted the International Animation Day celebration, organized by ASIFA India in collaboration with the Bengal AVGC-XR Association. This event brought together students, professionals, and industry leaders to highlight the growing Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics (AVGC) sector in West Bengal.
West Bengal IT & Electronics Minister Babul Supriyo inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of storytelling in animation and announcing plans for new diploma courses in 3D and VFX. He shared his own experiences in animation, inspiring attendees to explore career opportunities in the industry.
The event featured engaging sessions, including a storytelling workshop by National Award-winning animator Suresh Eriyat, who highlighted the significance of local narratives. A panel discussion on international co-productions explored strategies for global collaboration in creative content.
Exciting activities included a cosplay competition that showcased students' creativity and a Mascot Design Competition, won by Webel student Chandrayee Das, who received a Huion tablet for her artwork.
Career-focused sessions addressed the transition from academic learning to thriving careers in animation and VFX. Speakers discussed the importance of emotional intelligence and adaptability in today’s rapidly evolving industry. The event concluded with recognition for Bengal AVGC-XR Association members and volunteers, marking a successful celebration that paves the way for future initiatives in the AVGC sector.
